A prequel to the original Dune, it tells the story of how the Sisterhood of Rossak evolved into the Bene Gesserit. The episode in which Valya Harkonnen voices is from an event called “Mentats of Dune.” All three books intertwine with the development of the Sisterhood, the Mentatis, the Navigators, and the Suk Doctors. Why would you ever hire anything "creative" ever again, the writer responsible for Westworld season 4?
The writing was, frankly, boring and far too much exposition
This first episode was incredibly disappointing, especially for fans of the last two films. We tell elementary schoolers learning to write fiction: “show, don’t tell.” This writer never got the memo. I’m not discounting the writer because she’s a woman (on the contrary, we just finished the perfectly excellent Penguin, which was created and often written and directed by women).
I’m discounting her because her work is amateurish and flat
The nascent Bene Gesserit in the show are mere children compared to the film versions, where they’re shrouded in mystery and ooze a sense of deep dark power and manipulation. The weak and casual dialogue they delivered too often in the first episode just drained the feeling I was hoping to get from the show. I’m also not in love with the actors, and I wonder if the actors themselves feel the same way.
No one came through as a strong performer in my opinion, especially Mr
Strong himself.
